Copterrace – EP1: The Idea

Overview

The question behind this project is: “How can we structure a FPV race, so also novice pilots can easily understand what is going on?”

The result of this project can be seen here Copterrace.com.

There are commercial solutions like livetimescoring.com and non commercial solutions like fpv.gg which both interact with a race timing software called RotorHazard. This software is the standard go-to solution for open-source fpv race timing.

What is missing for the mentioned solutions is a clean interface for customizations and they also make very little use of the core functions of RotorHazard, which leads to parallel development of features across these projects.

My goal was to create a website-centric solution that can be used to advertise races and the fpv club itself as well as guiding the pilots through the event with maximal transparency. The software should have minimal server requirements: php, mysql, java-script.
